Magadan Region not to cut gold output over COVID-19 outbreak

MAGADAN, Apr 17 (PRIME) -- The isolation regime at the prospectors’ company Krivbass in the Magadan Region, where 59 cases of the COVID-19 were registered, will not hurt the region’s gold production, the regional government said in a statement on Friday.

The total amount of the COVID-19 cases in the Magadan Region stands at 64, of which 59 come from the Krivbass gold producer.

“The prospectors’ company has 17 licenses for production of the precious metal, the company produces about 600 kilograms per year…The region’s gold producing sector will not suffer large losses due to the suspension of the company. Large companies of the Kolyma region, which produce 92% of the region’s gold, comply with all protective measures,” the statement read.

The government also quoted region’s Natural Resources Minister Oleg Kosolapov as saying that the gold miners of the region produced almost 7 tonnes of gold in January–March, which is a contraction of 145 kilograms on the year, but that is an expected contraction. Output of silver also falls within the planned parameters, Kosolapov said as quoted by the government.
